Great Smoky Mountains National Park features ridge upon ridge of forest straddling the border between North Carolina and Tennessee. Renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the remnants of Southern Appalachian Mountain culture, this park is the most visited national park in America. One end of the park showcases Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, which offer a plethora of attractions, while the other end features Cherokee and a casino. When visiting, be sure to explore highlights such as Cades Cove and Clingmans Dome, as well as take a detour to the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. Recommended time for exploration: 2 hours to several days.

Cades Cove is an isolated valley nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, once home to numerous settlers—up to 680—before the establishment of the park. As the most popular destination within the park, Cades Cove attracts over two million visitors annually, drawn by its well-preserved homesteads, stunning mountain views, and diverse wildlife. Additionally, the Cades Cove Historic District is recognized on the National Registry of Historic Places. This tranquil 11-mile loop, located approximately an hour from the park entrance in Tennessee, offers a scenic complement to the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway.
