While there are no restaurants or gas stations directly on the road, make sure to stop for refreshments before entering in Robbinsville, NC, or afterward in Tellico Plains, TN. The Tapoco Lodge, just outside Robbinsville, is a fantastic spot to grab a meal and drinks!

Tale of the Dragon - Twists, turns, and thick woods, this drive isn’t focused on scenic overlooks or nature like the Blue Ridge Parkway or Cherohala Skyway. The Tail of the Dragon is all about you, the pavement, and two white knuckles gripping the steering wheel. Renowned as one of the most thrilling roads in America, featuring 318 curves over just 11 miles, it's easy to see why. Experience this legendary route, often referred to by locals as 'that damn road to Tennessee.' Don’t forget to visit the Fontana Dam, the largest dam east of the Rockies! The Tapoco Lodge outside of Robbinsville, NC, is an excellent stop for food and drinks. Recommended time: 4-8 hours.

Rent a Polaris Slingshot for 4 hours starting at 5pm and embark on a romantic drive along the stunning Blue Ridge Parkway or explore the scenic Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Road to Nowhere has a complicated history that resonates deeply with many locals in the area. Initially promised to provide easier access to the cemeteries that were cut off when the federal government flooded nearby towns during the construction of Fontana Dam, this road was left in limbo after the tunnel was completed, ending abruptly in the heart of the woods. This haunting segment of road is often discussed online. Recommended time: 1.5-2hrs.

Great Smoky Mountain National Park, known for its stunning diversity of plant and animal life, straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee. Renowned as America's most visited national park, it features magnificent ancient mountains and rich remnants of Southern Appalachian Mountain culture. Nearby attractions in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge provide a perfect complement to your visit, offering a variety of entertainment options. While exploring the park, don't miss must-see spots like Clingmans Dome and Cades Cove. Recommended time to explore the park is between 4 hours to several days.
